Historical sketch of the First National Bank, Fargo, N.D., written for its centennial in 1978. Includes mention of bank founders, Newton K. Hubbard, Evan S. Tyler, and Samuel G. Roberts, rebuilding after the 1893 fire, 1906 merger with Red River Valley National Bank, officers and employees of the bank, including L.B. Hanna and Evan S. Tyler, early automation of bank procedures, surviving the depression, construction of new buildings in 1926 and 1961, the bank's 50th anniversary, opening a trust department, and a computer system added in the 1960s.

Born at Damascus, Penn., son of John Young and Margaret Williams Tyler. Moved to Owatonna, Minn. in 1867 and to Fargo, N.D. in 1873. Joined in a business partnership with N.K. Hubbard; they built the Headquarters Hotel in Fargo. Wed Clara Estella Barnes in 1877; she died in 1883. He served in N.D. House of Representatives in 1889 and 1895. Served as N.D. State Bank Examiner, mayor of Fargo, and was active in purchasing land for Fargo city parks. Died in Fargo and was buried at Delavan, Wis. ...
